Motivation

Definition
Motivation, in the sense of Performance at work and personal satisfaction, is composed by 3 factors: Autonomy, Mastery, Purpose.
- Autonomy โ the desire to be self directed
- Mastery โ the urge to get better at stuff
- Purpose โ the object toward which one strives
Frederick Herzberg’s two-factor theory claims that there is a set of motivators and hygiene factors that cause job satisfaction.
Unlike traditional management belief money is not a motivator (i.e. “bonuses don’t work”). When work requires cognitive skills, when it’s not just the simplest manual labor, money is just a hygiene factor.
